“It was regrettable. That was kind of an exchange with our fans seated near me,” Jones explained during a Tuesday interview. “There was a large group of Cowboys fans—not Jets fans, our fans. The entire stadium was brimming with enthusiasm for the Cowboys.”

He further emphasized that the signal was entirely unintentional, happening amid the excitement following the team’s last score. “I just put up the wrong finger,” he remarked. “The action was inadvertently done. This is sincere. Should you call it unplanned, you can. However, it got resolved pretty quick.”

This is not the first time an league proprietor has been fined for inappropriate behavior. Recent cases involve:

• Panthers owner David Tepper was penalized $300K for tossing a beverage at spectators in January 2024.
